Biography
Courtlandt Palmer, a musician and composer of the Romantic style working in the early twentieth century, was born in 1871 to a wealthy New York family. Palmer studied music in Italy with Giovanni Sgambati, a student of Franz Liszt. Although Palmer was not well known, he was highly regarded by critics as well as by professional colleagues. His music was played in concert halls around New York City. Palmer also served on the executive committee of the Friends of Music society, which supported new American composers.
