Biography
Claudia Jones (1915-1964), Trinidadian-born political activist, communist and newspaper editor, was active in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. She was one of the Smith Act defendants in 1948, and, after a couple of arrests and imprisonments during the early 1950s, was deported to Great Britain in 1955. There she continued her activism, founded two newspapers, and helped to organize the Notting Hill Carnival. She died in London in 1964.
