· To Henry Colburn, publisher : 1 autograph letter signed ; 11 Aug. [between 1815 and 1824] (MISC 2003), reminding him that she will soon be in London, and that if he is not interested in her book that she will take it to Longman. Addressed to Colburn at Conduit St., from which he moved in 1824. The letter is tipped in to William Upcott album of collected letters of eminent women.

  • Elizabeth Appleton (c. 1790-1849), married name Lachlan, educationist and author. She became popular in the field of women's education after the 1815 publication of her Private Education, or, A Practical Plan for the Studies of Young Ladies. She lost much of her credibility following an evangelical conversion around 1830, afterwhich she gained a reputation as a fanatic.
