- These items were acquired together, forming a manuscript collection relating to Shelley's Bath upholsterers, English, English & Becks. Included are letters, documents, and contemporary copies to and from people associated with the following firms: Bell De Young and Co., merchant banking house of Leghorn ; R. G. & H. R. Burfoot, London solicitors ; the Pelican Life Insurance Company ; Tugwell, McKenzie & Co., banking firm ; and the following individuals: Richard Else, Bath solicitor ; Captain Daniel Roberts, superintendant of the building of Shelley's boat ; and Sir Timothy Shelley.
- Items (S'ANA 0510) - (S'ANA 0540) are all filed under "English and Becks" in the SC manuscript file, with the exception of: (S'ANA 0515), filed as (PBS 256a) ; (S'ANA 0522), filed under Timothy Shelley, and (S'ANA 0516) and (S'ANA 0519), filed in the SC oversize drawer.

- English, English and Becks, upholsterers of Bath. Edmund English, Robert English and Andrew Berkeley Becks furnished Albion House at Great Marlow for Shelley on credit in the winter and early spring of 1817, and were never paid. They were forced to declare bankruptcy in 1828. A detailed historical account and a list of documents in the Pforzheimer Collection relating to English & Becks (including these manuscripts and others) is provided in Shelley and His Circle, vol. VIII, p. 827-845.

- English, English and Becks, upholsterers of Bath.
