- John Bright, radical British politician. Somewhat of a national hero in his life, Bright, a Quaker, was considered the most effective radical Parliamentary speaker of the Victorian years. He was celebrated by proponents of British liberalism for his nonconformism, his involvement in the Anti-Corn Law League, his opposition to the Crimean War, and his leadership of the reform movement in the mid-1860s.
