  • · Partial-holograph epistolary and poetical piece for the Weekly Political Register : 5 Sep 1818 : (MISC 4022) : from North Hempstead [Long Island] : 42 pages : includes manuscript of "To John Cartwright Esq. ... On the conduct of the Westminster Rump and on that of Mr. Hunt and Sir Francis Burdett" which appeared in the Weekly Political Register, v. 34, issue 11 (5 Dec 1818). 34 ⁷/₈ pages in the hand of amanuensis; the rest in Cobbett's hand, signed at the end. Concludes with an autograph letter (copy) signed by Cobbett to Mrs. [Jeremiah] Brandeth, whose husband, a stocking knitter, had been executed in Derby. Shelved under "Cobbbett" with bound manuscript volumes.

What! The Boroughmongers shot at by the 'hero of Waterloo' ..."

  • · To John Clewer, an associate : 1 autograph letter signed : 30 Jun [1806?] : (MISC 3604) : [no place] : 1 page (single sheet) : begins, "The Volume containing the Population Returns for the whole kingdom of England and Wales is worth your acceptance, & is not to be got for money ..." With a note in a later hand at the top of the letter: "Mr. Cobbett used always to speak in the most contemptuous terms of the poor man to whom this is addressed."
