- "The text is clearly taken from No. 4182 [Quentell's 1478 Bible in the western dialect of Low German], though it has throughout been adapted to the Low Saxon dialect."--Darlow and Moule. British and Foreign Bible Soc. Historical catalogue, v. 2, p. 484. Gerhard Ising, in Die niederdeutschen Bibelfrühdrucke (1961-1976) considers the present dialect version to be the earlier of the two, distinguishing the versions as "unde" (Low Saxon or East Westphalian) and "ende" (West Low German or West Westphalian).
- With glosses according to Nicolaus de Lyra's postils.
- Illustrations: 113 woodcuts, comprising 90 cuts (Schramm, v. 8, no. 357-375, 377-394, 396-448, including one repeat) in v. 1, and 23 cuts (Schramm, v. 8, no. 449-462, 464, including nine repeats) in v. 2. Historiated borders (cf. Kautzsch, p. 6-7) on leaf 2a (preface), leaf 5a (Genesis), leaf 272a (Proverbs), leaf 436a (New Testament) and leaf 535a (Apocalypse). The borders, 21 cuts in v. 1 and all cuts in v. 2 are colored by hand. Because of a misunderstood passage in the preface it has been thought that the designs were copied from paintings in churches and monasteries, but Kautzsch has traced them to a manuscript. The cuts were probably made in Cologne by a woodcutter trained in France.
