- Image depicts three equilibrists dancing upon two "cordes" each balanced on a single leg: a boy and girl side-by-side, accompanied by a man playing a stringed instrument. The boy wears a white costume with red and gold adornment and red boots. The girl wears a pink, wide-collared dress and a feather plumed hat. The guitar player, who looks over his shoulder toward the viewer, wears a blue and gold costume and a white hat with an upturned brim.

- The Ravel family was a Parisian troupe who performed acrobatics, tumbling, rope dancing, and Charles Mazurier's pantomime ballets. They also toured extensively in America from the 1830s to the 1860s. Gabriel Ravel, likely the male dancer depicted in the print, was the leader of the troupe and a celebrated rope dancer.
