- Summary
- Collection consists of five letters and two documents, 1876-1891. Letters are addressed to D.E. Wells, the editor of The Graphic, William O. McDowell, Thomas B. Harris and Peter D. Keyser. Most are responses to requests. The two documents are a pardon of Frederick Schiel (1878) and a withdrawal of the nomination of Samuel B. Axtell to be receiver of public moneys at Boise City, Idaho (1881). Also included is a White House dinner invitation to Miss Avery (1880) and an undated franked envelope addressed to Gen. Payne of the Patent Office with a note of introduction for Miss Cabell written on the front. Also included is one folder of collateral material, including autographs, a calendar of correspondence, and miscellaneous clippings and photostats.
