  • Engraving of set design after Giacomo Torelli depicts Chiron's ocean cave from the first act of opera ballet Les noces de Pelée et de Thetis. In the foreground six characters dance, while a seventh, bearing a torch, appears to emerge from the head of a large creature. On the right, a figure (Pelée?) rides a chariot led by peacocks. To the left, a female figure (Thétis?) sits at the bottom of a long column of clouds. In the back of the image the cave opens up to the ocean revealling Neptune riding a chariot led by sea horses, surrounded by other sea creatures. Above, Jupiter looks down with his eagle from the clouds.
