Bible. Esther. Hebrew.

Note
  • Illuminated manuscript, on vellum. Ashkenazic script. Decorations and illustrations between columns of text. The illustrations portray the protagonists of the book in wigs, swords and European court garb. Mordechai, bearded with sidelocks, is wearing a blue coat with black sash and fur hat. Haman and his sons, hanging on the gallows, are being eaten by dogs.
  • The first column of the scroll was copied in the conventional manner. Perhaps after finishing it, the scribe decided to convert the scroll from a utilitarian object to an artistic endeavor. The text is followed by the blessings and liturgical poems (Asher Heni, Shoshanat Yaʻaḳov) recited after reading the Scroll on Purim. Copied by Binyamin Zeʼev ben Zalman.
