· To Teresa Guiccioli, Lord Byron's "last attachment" : 1 autograph letter signed "George, the Count Joannes" : 19 Sep 1869 : (B'ANA 0318) : from New York City, no. 39 Park Row; on the subject of the "great wrong and mercenary libel" of Harriet Beecher Stowe's Lady Byron Vindicated; also claiming the late Augusta Leigh as a "personal friend"; begins, "Health and Salutation! The Memoir by the Countess Guiccioli, in remembrance of the Poet of 'Childe Harold' has been received with pleasure ..." Mounted within the letter is a clipping from the 1 Sep 1869 issue of the New York Herald, a letter by Johannes to the editor, defending Byron against Stowe's accusations; also included are two contemporary newspaper clippings praising Johannes's defense of Byron.
