  • Disc 1, June 25, 2008 (ca. 69 min.). Jane Goldberg speaks with Joe Jeffries about (briefly) her family background and childhood; studying dance in college and afterward; moving to New York City from Boston; the experiences that drew her more deeply into tap dance; the historical background of the revival of interest in tap dancing in the 1960s and 1970s; her work and interest in journalism; her favorite experiences in journalism including writing about Ginger Rogers; her thoughts on various tap dancing styles; her own history as a performer including what she considers a break through performance in 1978; her preoccupation with comedy and entertainment in tap dancing; gender roles in tap; the historical perspective and ongoing relevance of tap dance; Gregory Hines; the dearth of space for tap dancers to study and rehearse in New York City ; the reluctance of older dancers to teach.
