Biography
Costume designer Kate Friedheim was born in Hamburg, Germany, where she studied design at the Academy of Arts. She designed costumes for the opera in Osnabruck from 1929 to 1933, when she was dismissed by the Nazis. Friedheim came to the United States in 1940 and designed costumes for the New York City Opera from 1948 to 1952, as well as for the American Lyric Theatre in White Plains, N.Y., which presented operas in English. She died at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1952 at the age of 47.
