- Summary
- Letter book of De Forest & Company of New Orleans, Louisiana, containing correspondence related to mercantile trading. Chief correspondent is the firm of A. S. Chittenden in New York, and main subjects of correspondence are the trade in cotton textiles and merchandise for the Mexican market, also mentioning the effects of the Mexican War on trading. Included in the volume are copies of letters written in 1848 from Vera Cruz, Mexico, describing conditions there during the American invasion.
