Summary
George Boziwick, Curator of the American Music Collection in the Music Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, lectures on American sacred tunebooks held by the Music Division. He discusses this early 18th century American music form, its transmission and publication history, its importance as a living singing tradition, and stylistic adaptation by contemporary composers. Lecture is accompanied by musical examples from a variety of sources performed by Ephraim's Harp vocal ensemble conducted by Lisa DeSpain.
