Biography (note)
  • The Lister family was one of the chief landowning families of Halifax, England in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Anne Lister, best known for her coded diaries, moved in 1815 to Shibden Hall in West Yorkshire to live with her aunt and uncle. From 1834, she lived there with her lover, Ann Walker. Upon her death in 1840, Lister left Walker a lifetime interest in Shibden Hall; years later Walker was forcibly removed after being deemed insane.
