- These papers of Francis Tiffany Bowles, Assistant Naval Constructor in the United States Navy, relate to the construction of the U.S.S. Texas and the U.S.S. Raleigh, as well as gun boats, auxiliary boats, and other vessels. They include specifications, costs, reports on progress of construction, photographs of progress, information about machines needed at the Norfolk Navy Yard, and data on British war ships and about the speed trial of the Japanese cruiser Naniwa-Kan. The papers also contain data about the U.S.S. Concord and the U.S.S. Detroit.
