- Description
- 1 print : engraving, b&w; diam. image 16 cm.
- Summary
- Representation of a well-dressed bridal couple, their postures suggesting dance movement, surrounded by equally elegant guests. Musicians play in a gallery at right. In the background is a view of Venice's lagoon. The two men in the doorway at left have been identified in the British Museum's online catalog as the commedia dell'arte characters Magnifico and his assistant Zanni. M.A. Katritzky's The art of commedia: a study in the commedia dell'arte 1560-1620 with special reference to the visual records (2006) identifies the first man as Pantalone.
