Summary
DIary kept by an unidentified British naval officer aboard the H.M.S. Pactolus. Covers period of active duty (1814) in Bay of Biscay and off northern shore of France; cruise (1814) from Bordeaux to Bermuda; active duty (1814-1815) off the coast of New England, New York, and New Jersey, with re-provisioning cruise to Bermuda, mentioning capture of American ships Lady Washington, Madagascar, Armistice, and Postboy; return cruise (1815) to England. Includes journal of continental journeys written in French and German (1816 and 1818) and four entries (1820) for letters received and written. At back of volume: chart (1812, 1813) of navigational observations at Deal, England and "General Instructions for making the Bermuda Islands."
