- Julie Kent, principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre (ABT), is interviewed by Rose Anne Thom. Kent speaks about her early training with Hortensia Fonseca; her interest in the narrative aspect of ballet; her early corps de ballet roles at ABT, particularly in The sleeping beauty; how she interprets roles in ballets, and the relationship between technique and the dramatic aspects of dance; how she was influenced by other dancers, by her husband Victor Barbee, and by her coach Georgina Parkinson; her relationships with three directors of ABT, namely Jane Hermann, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Kevin McKenzie, and with her partners; the experience of dancing in contemporary ballets, including works by Antony Tudor and Merce Cunningham; having works choreographed on her, including Lar Lubovitch's Othello; how her interpretations of roles have changed over the course of her career; and how having children has affected her career.
