Details
- Description
- 1 print : engraving, b&w; 20 x 25 cm.
- Summary
- In an image probably dating from the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, a man and a woman dance to the accompaniment of a lone male musician. Among the company, only one man appears to watch them; the others, who are engrossed with their own concerns, include drinkers, lovers, and a woman with a baby. On the wall, as though to indicate the rustic setting, is a framed picture of a grazing cow. A spirited brawl among men armed with sticks is visible through the open door at background left.
