- Biography
- James John Roosevelt, also known as James I., was a congressman and lawyer, born in New York City on December 14, 1795; admitted to the bar in 1818; member of the New York State Assembly in 1835 and 1840; member of the U.S. House of Representatives, 1841 to 1843; Justice of the New York Supreme Court , 1851 to 1859; and District Attorney for southern New York, 1860-1861. He died April 5, 1875.
