- Diary kept by A. W. Tower, a private in the 56th Regiment, (Brooklyn) New York Volunteers, from June 18-July 15 1863. Describes a 30-day campaign in Pennsylvania. Brooklyn to Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Cost of and difficulties obtaining food, clothing, and sleeping quarters; battle strategy in defense of the Susquehanna River; activities at Fort Washington, Carlisle, Waynesboro, and Frederick, MD.; and finally to Baltimore, Harrisburg, and return to Brooklyn.
