Summary
Plate 4 from the album Un an à Rome, containing two lithographs after images by Antoine Jean-Baptiste Thomas. The print at top, titled Polichinelle et grotesques, depicts the commedia dell'arte figure Polichinelle or Pulcinella, in peaked cap and black half-mask with both arms upraised, watching a dancing couple at center. A pair of male acrobats perform at either side. The print below, titled Loges du theâtre, depicts members of the audience in boxes at the theatre. The couple at right appear to be conjecturing about the curtained box at center.
