Description
1 print : etching, b&w; 20 x 31 cm., on mount 22 x 33 cm.
Summary
Representation of a celebration in the streets of Paris, with the participants engaged in various activities. In the middle distance, men and women dance in a circle. The setting appears to be the gate called the Barrière d'Enfer, which is sometimes said to have derived its name from the immoral and illicit activities that took place there. This location was also used in the third act of Giacomo Puccini's opera La bohème (1896).
