- Summary
- Plate 14 from Portefeuille historique de l'ornement (1841-1843?), a set of engravings of decorative designs after various artists of the past. This plate is divided into two sections, each depicting architectural ornaments engraved after the designer Jean Bérain, 1640-1711. The section at right includes two dancing figures: a male jester carrying a sceptre decorated with a head, and a female dancer playing a tambourine.

- Jean Bérain, called Jean Bérain the Elder to distinguish him from his son, was a prolific designer, draughtsman, painter, and engraver. His works included architectural ornaments, furniture, and tapestries, as well as scenery and costumes for ballets and theatrical works.
