Summary

Depiction of a celebration on the Champ de Mars, Paris, on July 14, 1790, commemorating the first anniversary of the taking of the Bastille. An altar stands in the middle of the field; in the center is a three-arched triumphal monument. The spectators clustered in the foreground cheer on the troops, who parade with their standards and demonstrate their martial prowess.
