Details
- Description
- 2 prints : lithograph, hand-colored; 33 x 26 cm.
- Summary
- Two prints from a series depicting costumes from foreign lands, probably intended as fancy-dress attire for the quadrille, a ballroom dance popular in the nineteenth century. The fair complexions and European facial features of the couple portrayed in the print captioned Quadrille Bédouin suggest that ethnographic accuracy was not the artist's priority; the woman's hairstyle also reflects Parisian fashions of the 1830s.
