- Collection culled from various sources, depicting dancers of various periods, ranging from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, though some images may have been made at a later time. Most lack captions or other identifying text; some may be reproductions. Ten items, or more than half of this collection, depict female dancers from the period called the Romantic ballet (1830s to 1850s), when women dominated the ballet stage.
