Summary
Soth Somaly speaks about how she started dancing; her early experiences at the Royal Palace; her teachers, including her mother; studying the female, male, and giant roles; her opportunities for performing; rehearsal practices; and differences between music and singers of the past and present. She discusses her experiences under the Khmer Rouge, and how she began teaching after the Pol Pot era, her study and teaching of "Bassac" theater. She speaks about her daughter's training and dance career. Then she describes how the ballet Sovannahong was re-created: how she wrote the lyrics and story and created choreography, her choice of dancers, the rehearsal and success of the ballet, and her previous experiences choreographing.
