Summary
In March interview, Sin Sama Deuk Chho speaks about her family background and early life; the long-houses where singers and dancers lived after they were made to leave the Royal Palace; how her mother taught her dance, and teaching methods of her youth. She discusses how new dances were created; dance manuscripts; methods of singing, famous singers, the types of voices suited to different roles, how dancers become singers, and how singers are now responsible for dressing dancers, whereas in the past the jobs were separate. She recalls serving the Queen at the Royal Palace. She talks about what dances she teaches. She sings songs. She discusses the gestures of the monkey role, and the dance her mother created in which Hanuman seduces the mermaid, from the Reamkar story, and then speaks about "Ngos" roles. In July interview, Sin Sama Deuk Chho speaks about songs and singing, with demonstrations. She discusses various melodies; the difference between Mahori songs and Pinpeat songs; the types of voices suited to different roles; the make-up of singing groups; the process of preparing for a ballet; how she learned to sing, and her teachers; the difficulty of singing in the ballet style.
