- David Porter was an officer of the United States Navy who served in the Tripolitan War from 1801 to 1803; served with Mexican naval forces from 1826 to 1829; and was the United States Minister to Turkey from 1831 to 1840. Correspondence chiefly concerns American and Mexican naval affairs and other professional matters. Correspondents include Paul Hamilton, Smith Thompson, Thomas M. Newell, Francis H. Gregory, and others. In English and Spanish.
