Description
1 videocassette (123:33) : sound, color with black and white; 1/2 in.
Summary
The first video, "The Cockettes in the Palace" is a raw black and white documentary film of one of the Nocturnal Dream shows at the Palace, "Les Ghouls", a Halloween-themed Cockette show which was held in October 1970. Most of the film shows the performers getting ready backstage, also includes a parody of the 1935 film "Bride of Frankenstein", and an unidentified performer (Rumi Missabu?) parodying Mick Jagger onstage singing "Jumping Jack Flash" (0:00-24:22). In the second video, "Tricia's wedding" (1971), the Cockettes reenact Tricia Nixon's wedding to Edward Cox on June 11, 1971. Hurtme O. Hurtme, televsion correspondent, covers the wedding and interviews faux celebrities in attendance (24:23-56:47). The last video, "Elevator girls in bondage" (1972), is a cult classic film; the Cockettes depict workers and guests in a hotel during the depression of 1971-1972, and the elevator girls, tired of being marginalized by low pay and misogyny, take action and decide to go on strike, with dire consquences (56:48-1:53:10). The last part of the video is an excerpted reprise of "The Cockettes in the Palace" (1:53:11-2:03:33).
