Summary
A broadcast of the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Gala honoring President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, and their families at the beginning of their second term. The production's theme, "An American Journey", is advanced by connecting performers and performances with the history of immigration to America. Also, there are "Inaugural Moments": brief segments on historic presidential inaugurations. Highlights include: Sandi Patty performing "The Star Spangled Banner"; Mikhail Baryshnikov in Mark Morris' "Three Preludes", with music by George Gershwin; Yo-Yo Ma, Mark O'Connor, and Edgar Meyer performing O'Connor's "Appalachia Waltz"; Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Joel Grey, and James Naughton singing selections from John Kander and Fred Ebb's "Chicago"; and Laurie Beechman singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's "Carousel".
