Summary
  • Part 1 (0:00-6:47 minutes) and Part 2 (6:51-31:09 minutes). Lewis Archibald, a journalist who wrote for the magazine "Downtown," interviews former evangelist preacher and actor Marjoe Gortner, who talks about his childhood and his parents who arranged for him at age four to be ordained as a preacher on the revival circuit, due to his extraordinary speaking ability. They also taught him several money-raising tactics, including the sale of supposedly "holy" articles at revivals. He would promise that such items could be used to heal the sick and dying. He comments about the 1972 American documentary film on the lucrative business of Pentecostal preaching "Marjoe" that follows many episodes from his life as an evangelist, that was recently released, and after which he became a celebrity during the 1970's. (The film won the 1972 Academy Award for Best Documentary Film.). Gortner also discusses the crisis of conscience he suffered as a teenager, as a result of which he decided to give up the revival circuit.
  • Parts 3-9, and part 2 (00:00-5:23). Lewis Archibald interviews American actor, film director and producer Robert Redford. During two interviews, recorded May 1972 and December 1974, Redford talks about his acting career, and the roles he played in various productions such as the role of the Sundance Kid in the 1969 American western film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" directed by George Roy Hill and written by William Goldman; and the role of Bill McKay in the 1972 American satirical comedy-drama film "The Candidate" directed by Michael Ritchie; the rolw of Jeremiah Johnson in the 1972 western film "Jeremiah Johnson" directed by Sydney Pollak; and others.
