1 streaming video file (53 min.) : sound, color.
Summary
Tuckwell, regarded as the world's leading horn player, outlines the history and evolution of the French horn from a device able to produce only simple sounds to the elaborate musical instrument for which such composers as Telemann, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Bennett and Britten composed musical works. (Excerpts from works of these composers performed by Tuckwell intercut the narration). The program is comprised of two parts, and the 2nd focuses particularly on the horn music composed by Mozart for a horn player and his good friend Joseph Leutgeb namely Horn Concerto No. 1 in D major, and other works for horn.
