- Twenty eight year old John Mauceri, a young promising conductor, reflects on the early emergence of his talent for music; his education at Yale University where he earned a BA and a Masters of Philosophy in Music Theory in 1972.; his role as a music director of the Yale Symphony Orchestra; the art and nuances of conducting and being a medium between the sound and the audience; definition and analysis of "contemporary" music at a given period of time; the original failure and ultimate success of Bernstein's Candide attributed to the changes the work underwent; and finally at great length he discusses and compares the mass in religion to The mass as a musical work, and his production of Bernstein's Mass that was performed in Vienna and which is to be broadcast on PBS February 27, 1974.
