  • Shows location of cities, towns, forts, roads, chapels, houses, mountains, rivers, creeks, streams, and rural householders' names.
  • Includes North Carolina west to the Blue Ridge mountains, and parts of Virginia and South Carolina. Native American tribes mentioned include the Meherrin, Catawba, and Tuscarora.
  • A dotted line across the state at 35.5 degrees latitude is probably the Granville Line; the area north of this line, and possibly the soundings, are based on the surveys of William Churton.
  • Cartouche in the lower right corner contains a dedication to George III, surmounted by the Hanoverian crest "To His most Excellent Majesty George the IIId. King of Great Britain, &c. &c. &c. This Map is most humbly dedicated by His Majesty's most humble obedient & dutiful subject. John Collet."
  • The cartouche also contains symbols of the new world including an Indian, an alligator and a wildcat.
  • At upper left: 82° 19' W. Long. from London...6 Degrees of Long. from Currituck Inlet
  • Library copy: Second state. State 2 (of 2) of the map identified by the depiction of a marshy area below Cross Creek (not evident on State 1)
