  • Relief shown by hachures.
  • Prime meridian: Washington, D.C.
  • Includes text, population table, and lists of steamboat routes and altitudes.
  • Differs from other 1862 edition in including a list of new maps to the right of the map title as well as "Deviation of the magnetic needle . . ." and "Memoranda" describing the sources and projection used to make the map, and lacking the warning to the right of the map title. Lacks labeling of Ft. Calhoun, just south of Hampton Roads.
  • "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1861 by J.T. Lloyd in the clerks office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York."

NYPL copy in Map Div. 21-284 folded in leather cover 20 x 13 cm, with cover title Map of Virginia. Imperfect copy: trimmed on all sides, lacking most text in title and publisher area. Some parts trimmed off have been pasted onto remaining sheet, including southwesternmost Lee County, scale, legend, and text on steamboat routes. Overall sheet dimensions now 61 x 99 cm.
NYPL copy in Map Div. 21-284 has accession no. stamped on verso: 36618.
