[Begins abruptly.] Margot Fonteyn speaks about the problem of balancing the economic aspects of supporting a ballet company with the maintaining of artistic quality; in response to questions from Perry Brass (?) among others, Fonteyn speaks about Ninette de Valois and the lack of subsidies for Sadler's Wells Ballet prior to 1946; the special relationships between dancers; reasons she has done almost no coaching or teaching; her performance as Princess Aurora in New York City in 1949; three-act story ballets; dramatic ballerinas; reasons she does not want to be a an artistic director; dance in cinema, in particular the choreography of Fred Astaire, compared to dance on television; the dancer's responsibility to entertain the audience; the gradual merging of once-distinct ballet styles; Rudolf Nureyev and his role in raising the profile of male ballet dancers; Martha Graham's equal emphasis on men and women in her work; her identification with the character she is dancing, whoever the character may be.
