- Summary
- Two unidentified men chat with Narciso Yepes, an accomplished guitarist and music scholar, who rediscovered numerous works for guitar and lute, about his recording of the Partitas for lute duo by Telemann, with Godelieve Monden; his family (wife and children); his concerts in Japan and his influence to popularize guitar music in that country; flamenco music and flamenco dancer of Mexican origin who has a club in Madrid, Lucero Tena; and the acoustics of various concert halls. The last five 5 minutes of the 1st part is an excerpt of Symphony 34 by Mozart from a broadcast of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra concert in January, 1980 the full version of which can be found in *LTC-A 1534. The 2nd part is a continuation of the chat that focuses on Yepes's ten-string guitar, which he invented in collaboration with the renowned guitar maker José Ramírez, and his demonstation and explanation of the technique of playing notes with the ring, middle, and index fingers of the right hand; the difference in the sound of the notes; the possibility to transcribe works originally written for baroque lute without harmful transposition of the bass notes; and the addition of string resonators that resulted in the first guitar with truly chromatic string resonance - similar to that of the piano with its pedal mechanism.
