- Summary
- Philip Sterling, the writer and public relations executive who worked for the Columbia Broadcasting System for many years, interviews [Carl] Van Vechten, American writer and photographer. Van Vechten, who was a patron of the Harlem Renaissance, and by the turn of the 20th century encountered many black entertainers including Bert Williams and his long-term artistic partner George Walker, recalls both and talks about their role in the history of African American musical theater. He refers to his essay The Negro theatre (published in 1920) in which he also analyzes Williams's success on Broadway stage.
