[Music and introductory remarks by an unidentified announcer; introductory remarks by Marian Horosko.] Marian Horosko introduces her guest George Skibine, artistic director of the Harkness Ballet; Skibine speaks with Horosko about the formation of the company including the auditioning of the dancers and repertoire; the company's summer residence at Rebekah Harkness's estate in Watch Hill, Rhode Island; classes and rehearsals at Watch Hill; the decision to include both classical and modern ballet in the company's repertoire; the ability of American dancers to work in all styles of ballet; Skibine's background; his ballet Daphnis and Chloe set to Maurice Ravel's music, including the pas de deux accompanied by the section known as the Dawn music [Horosko plays a recorded excerpt of the Dawn music]; the Harkness Ballet's first tour of Europe including the critical response; the mixed repertoire; the American tour and its repertoire including Skibine's Sarabande and his Venta Quemade, John Butler's Sebastian, Sophie Maslow's Dybbuk, and Donald McKayle's Daughters of the garden; some of the company's leading dancers.
