- Copied in an unknown hand, the poem was published in newspapers and various other publications throughout much of the 19th century. Littell's Living Age (Boston: T. H. Carter & Co.), issue number 18, 14 September 1844, cites (on page 384) the original source to be "the Aberdeen Journal, 1815."
