Summary
The program (incomplete in the end) is comprised of 2 independent interviews with lengthy interjection of news in the New York area and abroad, commercials, traffic reports, weather forecast etc. The 1st part is an interview with Austrian pianist Alfred Brendel, who is in town with concerts. An admirer and performer of composer Franz Liszt whose 100th jubilee year is widely celebrated by musicians, Brendel portrays the composer as one of the giants of the 19th century. He also explains his view on the special qualities essential for performing Chopin whom he has chosen not to include in his repertoires. The 2nd part of the program presents Joseph Papp, the founder of New York Shakespeare Festival and Public Theater, who begins the interview with correcting the confusion about the birthdate of Shakespeare and goes on to speak about his project of multicultural approach in introducing Shakespeare at schools with participation of such actors as Meryl Streep, James Earl Jones, Kevin Kline, Stacy Keach, and Raul Julia.
