- Biography
- Emanuel Balaban (1895-1973) was an American pianist and orchestral conductor. Educated at the Institute of Musical Art in New York, he studied under Fritz Busch in Europe. He spent three years at the Dresden State Opera. Returning to the United States, he founded the Rochester Opera Company (later the American Opera Company). He held the position of Director of the Opera Department at the Eastman School of Music for many years, while freelancing as a conductor with various orchestras.
