- Summary
- The 69th Regiment of New York achieved honors in the Civil War as part of the Irish Brigade, composed of Irish-American men. The 69th Regiment 50th anniversary dinner scrapbook documents a dinner commemorating the 50th anniversary of the departure of the 69th Regiment for the Civil War. Guests at the dinner included President William H. Taft, New York Governor John A. Dix, New York Supreme Court Justice Victor J. Dowling, United States Senator James A. O'Gorman, General Nelson A. Miles, and Monsignor Michael J. Lavelle, rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral. The scrapbook contains a program; guest lists; invitations; photographic portraits of attendees; copies of addresses given by the guests regarding the 69th Regiment and the Irish in America; clippings regarding the history of the 69th Regiment and events held in their honor; and letters to and from politicians, judges, clergy, military officers, and other public figures regarding arrangements for the dinner.
