Summary
  • Leida Snow interviews English actor Brian Bedford. Bedford talks about his career as an actor and director of Shakespeare productions in Europe and the United States, and compares his European experience in the role of Angelo in "Measure for measure" at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 1975 and 1976 to The Public Theater's New York Shakespeare Festival Shakespeare in the Park productions of "As you like It" (as Orlando), and "Timon of Athens" (as Timon). He also speaks about the importance of classical dramatic theater in the United States even if this kind of theater doesn't make any profit; about his professional plans for the near future; and about Shakespeare as his main influence.
  • Leida Snow interviews American conductor and musicologist Maurice Peress on the three-concert Landmark Jazz series, that he reconstructed and directed, to be held at Carnegie Hall, New York, July 1989: the Carnegie Hall debut of Duke Ellington and His Orchestra, Jan. 23, 1943; the program of music by George Antheil; and a recreation of James Reese Europe's Clef Club Orchestra concert from May 2, 1912, who played ragtime, a precursor of the jazz age.
