- NYPL Dictionary catalog of the Map Division identifies this as "fragment of a map accompan[y]ing the Annual Report of the Commissioners of the General Land Office, 1869," but it does not match such a map image at Library of Congress website, viewed 13 September 2016.
- Fragment covers southwestern United States, as far northwest as California-Oregon border and northeast as northeastern Illinois; south to Big Bend in the Rio Grande River.
- Shows railroads, including connection between Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads, joined in 1869.
- Complete title of map undetermined; printed scale ratio and scale bar pasted over part of title; part of title cut off.
- Boundaries colored; names of selected locations underlined in red, with flag symbols adjacent.
- At head of title, insignia of a U.S. government agency (Corps of Engineers?) includes eagle on top and motto on bottom: Essayons.
